Importing Items (CSV / Excel)

Supported formats

Tresora can import items from:

  • CSV files (.csv)
  • Excel files (.xlsx, .xls)

Starting an import

Navigate to the Catalog page, open the More actions menu, and choose Import. You can optionally select a category before starting — this determines which category-specific fields are available for mapping.

If no category is selected, items are imported with standard fields only. You can always assign a category later.

The Import Wizard

Importing is a guided, three-step process.

Step 1 — Upload

Drag and drop your file or click to browse. The wizard reads your file and displays the detected columns and row count.

If your spreadsheet doesn't include a Status column, you can choose a default status (Collection, Sold, Wishlist, or Archived) that will be applied to all imported items.

Step 2 — Map columns

Match each column in your spreadsheet to the corresponding Tresora field. The wizard auto-maps common column names, but you can adjust any mapping manually.

Available target fields include title, SKU, category, classification, condition, description, notes, pricing fields, dimensions, location, dates, images, and category-specific attributes (when a category is selected).

Title is required — you must map at least one column to the Title field before proceeding.

Value mapping: Some fields (like Condition or Category) have specific expected values. If your spreadsheet uses different labels (e.g., "VG" instead of "Very Good"), the wizard detects unrecognized values and lets you map them to Tresora's accepted values before importing.

Step 3 — Preview and import

Review how your items will look after import. The preview shows each row with validation status:

  • Valid — ready to import.
  • Warning — some fields have unexpected values that will be skipped or defaulted.
  • Error — rows missing required data (e.g., no title) that will be skipped.

You can exclude individual rows by unchecking them, search through rows, and go back to the mapping step to fix issues.

When ready, click Import to begin. A progress bar shows how many items have been processed. You can stop the import at any time — items already created are kept.

If you navigate away during an active import, the app warns you to prevent accidental interruption.

Importing images

If your spreadsheet includes a column with image URLs, map it to the Images field. Tresora downloads and attaches the images to each item during import (up to 20 images per item).

Image URLs must be publicly accessible for the download to succeed. Multiple URLs can be included in a single cell, separated by commas or line breaks.

The wizard also supports multi-row image formats — where additional images for an item are placed on separate rows beneath it (common in exports from some inventory systems).

SKU generation

If no SKU column is mapped (or a row has no SKU value), the wizard auto-generates a sequential SKU for each imported item based on your SKU settings.

Tips

  • Export a few items first to see the expected format, then use that as a template for your import file.
  • Clean up your spreadsheet before importing — remove empty rows, standardize category and condition names.
  • Large imports may take a few minutes; the progress bar tracks each item as it's processed.
